Ed Sheeran is facing even more backlash…but this time, it’s coming from his own family.
The singer’s cousin, British musician Jethro Sheeran, publicly slammed Ed in a blistering Instagram post, saying he was “ashamed” of his famous relative as controversy continues over Macklemore’s removal from the Loop Tour.
“I’m ashamed of my Cousin Ed,” Jethro, who performs as Alonestar, wrote. “He’s honestly a selfish individual with malicious, cunning ways.”
Jethro, the son of Ed’s uncle John Sheeran, also accused the “Shape of You” singer of mistreating him personally and professionally. He claimed he supported Ed early in his career by bringing him into studios, putting him onstage, and featuring him on his early music.
“I’ve known him all my life and started him in music,” Jethro wrote.
He also weighed in on Macklemore’s departure from the tour, calling Ed a “coward” and alleging his cousin was concerned with protecting business relationships.
Macklemore revealed that Ed and his team had decided to remove him from the tour after the rapper used recent opening sets to voice support for Palestinians and perform his protest song “Hind’s Hall.”
Ed later addressed the backlash during his Philadelphia concert.
“I’ve had to take [it in] and make difficult decisions,” he told the crowd, adding, “I am making mistakes, and I’m so so sorry.”
The fans are still calling for him to be canceled.
