Taylor Frankie Paul’s former fiancé, Doug Mason, is officially closing the door on their failed romance after their season of The Bachelorette was scrapped before viewers ever saw their love story.
Mason, who received Paul’s final rose and proposed during filming, addressed the relationship publicly for the first time this week.
“I have officially moved on and this is me saying that,” he told Instagram followers. The reality TV hopeful said the experience had been “looming” over him, even though he had emotionally moved forward long ago.
“I met some brothers, and I learned a lot about myself,” he added.
Their engagement never reached television. ABC canceled Paul’s season just three days before its March premiere after TMZ released footage showing the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star throwing chairs at ex Dakota Mortensen during a 2023 altercation while a child was nearby.
Mason initially supported Paul, saying he was sending her prayers because “that was her moment and her moment was blocked.”
But their relationship had already ended.
Paul later revealed that long-distance struggles and her rekindled involvement with Mortensen contributed to their breakup but she also cast doubt Mason’s intentions after discovering his aspirations as a musician.
“There was a point that it clicked,” she told her co-stars. “I was like, ‘This isn’t gonna work, and I’m gonna break it off.’”
Mason says the debacle was in his past and that he is choosing to focus on the future.
