Gary Glitter is facing new sexual offense charges tied to allegations dating back more than four decades.
The former glam rock singer, whose real name is Paul Gadd, has been charged with one count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under 13 and three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14, the Crown Prosecution Service announced on Thursday.
The allegations involve one woman and relate to a period between 1978 and 1981.
Gadd, 82, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Aug. 5. Authorities say the woman first came forward in January 2025. Police later questioned Gadd in July 2025, and specialist officers are supporting the alleged victim.
“Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so,” Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor Bethan David said.
David also noted that Gadd “has the right to a fair trial” and warned against public speculation and commentary that could prejudice the case.
Gadd has consistently denied being sexually interested in children.
Gadd is already serving a 16-year sentence after being convicted in 2015 of abusing three schoolgirls between 1975 and 1980. He was briefly released on probation in 2023 before being returned to prison for violating its terms. The disgraced pop star was also jailed in 1999 for possessing child p*rnography and later convicted in Vietnam for committing obscene acts with two girls.
Gary Glitter, born Paul Gadd, rose to fame in the 1970s as a British glam rock singer. His biggest hits included “Rock and Roll Parts 1 and 2,” “I’m the Leader of the Gang (I Am!)” and “Hello, Hello, I’m Back Again.” “Rock and Roll Part 2” later became widely used at sporting events and appeared in film and television, including Joker.
