The Tyler Perry scandal just got messier. Media Take Out has learned that Derrick Dixon — an openly gay man who says he was first noticed by Perry while working backstage as a stage hand — is now putting the entertainment mogul on full blast.
Derrick isn’t your typical Hollywood actor. In fact, he had no acting background when he caught Perry’s eye behind the scenes. According to Derrick, Perry began openly flirting with him, and later offered him a starring role on the BET hit show The Oval. And while fans may not have considered Derrick the strongest actor, his good looks and presence made him a noticeable face on screen.
But according to Derrick, that’s when things turned ugly.
The Allegations
In an exclusive interview with ABC News’ Linsey Davis, Derrick detailed one alleged incident in which Perry allegedly pulled down his underwear after a night of drinking at Perry’s Atlanta residence.
“He reached down and pulled my underwear down and grabbed my ass,” Derrick claimed. “I tried to pull them back up and said, ‘Stop, I don’t want to be naked. I don’t want this.’”
Derrick says he locked himself in the bathroom afterward. The next day, he claims Perry called to apologize.
On another occasion, Derrick says Perry climbed into bed with him at the guest house, rubbing his leg and commenting on his body. “I thought after rejecting him, it would stop,” Derrick said. “But it didn’t.”
The Pressure
According to Derrick, Perry allegedly bombarded him with daily texts and calls of a sexual nature, leaving him anxious and fearful about his job security. When his character on The Oval was abruptly shot multiple times in Season 2, Derrick says he took it as a message: “If I don’t make him happy, I could stay dead on the show.”
By September 2024, he walked away from the series altogether.
The $260 Million Lawsuit
In June 2025, Derrick filed suit against Perry, demanding a staggering $260 million. He explained how he arrived at that number:
- Lost income & career opportunities after being written off the show.
- Damages for professional retaliation.
- And most importantly, as Derrick told ABC: “The other part of that is a deterrent. How do you stop a billionaire who won’t stop themselves from doing this?”
Perry’s Response
Perry’s lawyers have fired back hard, calling the allegations “fabricated” and branding Derrick’s lawsuit a “shakedown.” His attorney Matthew Boyd insists: “Tyler will not be shaken down, and we are confident these claims will fail.”

Now, the internet is buzzing. Some say Derrick’s story feels all too believable given the power dynamics of Hollywood, while others think the $260 million figure screams money grab.
