D4vd’s murder case has a new lawyer, and now the singer is getting some private time with him behind bars.
The public defender who recently took over D4vd’s defense asked the court to arrange an in-person meeting inside a private section of the Los Angeles jail where the musician is being held, TMZ reported, citing newly filed court documents.
The attorney said he needs to sit down with D4vd and review the evidence prosecutors have gathered, including social media material and potential video evidence. To do that, the lawyer also requested permission to bring a laptop into the jail during their meeting.
The judge approved the request one day later.
D4vd is accused of murdering Celeste Rivas, whom authorities have described as his girlfriend. He remains incarcerated as his case moves through the courts.
His new attorney stepped in after lawyers Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter withdrew from the case. TMZ reported that the attorneys left after D4vd no longer had the funds to continue paying them.
“This morning the court granted our request to withdraw as counsel and appoint the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office after it was determined David qualified for appointed counsel,” Berk said in a statement at the time.
“We continue to support David and his defense against these serious charges. We are grateful that the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office has taken over the representation and that David has a highly capable and committed team of attorneys and investigators behind him.”
