After months of speculation and doubt, D4vd was arrested Thursday in Los Angeles on suspicion of murder in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose remains were discovered last September inside the trunk of the singer’s impounded Tesla.
The 21-year-old musician, born David Burke, was taken into custody around 4:30 p.m. after detectives obtained a warrant based on probable cause, authorities said. Police said D4vd is being held without bail while prosecutors review the case.
“Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department, Robbery-Homicide Division, have arrested David Burke, a 21-year-old resident of Los Angeles, for the murder of Celeste Rivas,” LAPD said in a statement.
D4vd’s attorneys denied the allegations soon after his arrest.
“Let us be clear, the actual evidence in this case will show that David Burke did not murder Celeste Rivas Hernandez, and he was not the cause of her death,” attorneys Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter said.

Rivas Hernandez had been reported missing in 2024. Her body was found after a tow yard contacted police about an odor coming from Burke’s 2023 Tesla Model Y.
The case is expected to be presented to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office on Monday.
The arrest follows months of secrecy surrounding the investigation, including a court order that temporarily blocked the release of the teen’s autopsy report.
