D4vd is preparing to return to court this week, and his legal team recently sought permission to improve his appearance before the hearing.
The performer, legally known as David A. Burke, is due in court Wednesday, with a possible preliminary hearing Friday in Los Angeles. He has pleaded not guilty and is being held without bail.
In filings submitted last week, D4vd’s attorneys requested that he be allowed to appear wearing “dress pants” and a “button down shirt” for Friday’s hearing. The judge denied that request.
Another motion received approval. Judge Charlaine F. Olmedo signed an order Monday directing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to give the singer a haircut before the May 1 court date.
D4vd was arrested on April 16 after prosecutors accused him of the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez. Authorities allege he sexually abused the teen, then murdered and dismembered her. Her remains were later found inside his Tesla sedan last September.
Police officials say the case was difficult to investigate because several months passed between Celeste’s suspected death and the discovery of her remains.
“The significant delay between her death and discovery presented major investigative challenges,” LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell said Tuesday.
“Critical physical evidence had degraded, or was no longer recoverable,” he added.
Newly revealed court records also show detectives served 54 search warrants during the investigation.
D4vd’s lead attorney, Blair Berke, previously told the court that Burke “did not murder” Celeste and was not responsible for her death.
