Nessa is celebrating Colin Kaepernick’s accomplishments, but the hurt she felt watching his football career unravel hasn’t gone away.
The radio host shared a deeply touching message about her 38-year-old husband, revealing how difficult it was to watch people question his character after he began protesting racial injustice by kneeling during the national anthem in 2016.
“I hated watching people lie about you, manipulate stories and try to undermine you,” she wrote. “That (expletive) hurt.”
Nearly a decade after Kaepernick last appeared in an NFL game, Nessa still has a lot to say.
“I can’t say I forgive it, but I’ve learned that time has a way of revealing things,” she shared.
Nessa celebrated the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback’s work beyond football, particularly his efforts to support communities through Know Your Rights Camp.
“When one platform was taken from you, you found another way to serve whether anyone was watching or not,” she wrote.
She also had a message for those who once questioned his commercial appeal.
“Didn’t they say Colin was bad for business? Well… now he’s a 2x New York Times bestselling author,” she wrote, referencing his success following the release of The Perilous Fight.
Kaepernick, meanwhile, still hopes to play professionally again.
“Over the last 10 years, we have consistently reached out to teams,” he told The Standard, adding that he continues preparing for another opportunity.
