Boxer Claressa Shields has addressed her recent boxing suspension after recently testing positive for marijuana.
Claressa headed to the Tamron Hall Show, where the host asked her about the controversy.
The athlete says the venue where the match occurred smelled strongly of marijuana, and she suspects that’s how her oral swab showed a positive result.
After taking a urine test, she shared that her results were negative for marijuana.
“When I read that, that’s what kind of hurt my feelings a little bit because I know that I don’t do anything wrong when it comes to boxing, and being a Black woman in the sport already I have to work 10 times harder to even get equal pay, to even get put on TV, to get respect,” she tomd Tamron.
“I don’t even get to prove my innocence, I’m just already guilty,” she continued. “Everybody’s posting this stuff, saying that I’m a danger to the sport, I’m suspended, I smoke marijuana.”
Claressa clarified that she is not suspended from the sport of boxing, but she has been suspended from fighting in Michigan.
