Brittney Griner’s estranged wife, Cherelle Griner, is asking a court to consider the WNBA star’s income as she seeks financial support after their eight-year marriage ended.
In court documents filed in response to Brittney’s divorce petition, Cherelle said there is a “substantial disparity” between their incomes and claimed she is “unable to meet her reasonable financial needs every month without continued support,” according to TMZ.
Cherelle listed the couple’s marriage date as June 18, 2018, and said they separated on July 24, 2026. She described the marriage as “irretrievably broken with no hope for reconciliation.”
The couple’s relationship became especially public while Brittney was detained in Russia. During that period, Cherelle repeatedly spoke out and pushed for her wife’s release.
The couple also shares a child, Bash Griner. Cherelle is seeking joint legal custody and has asked the court to determine physical custody and parenting time based on the child’s best interests.
Brittney currently plays for the Connecticut Sun and reportedly signed a one-year deal worth more than $1 million.
Cherelle is asking the court to award her financial support while taking Brittney’s earnings into account.
The divorce case remains ongoing.
