Boxer Julio César Chavez Jr. Arrested By ICE Over Alleged Cartel Ties

Mexican boxer Julio César Chavez Jr. has been detained by ICE officers just days after his major fight against Jake Paul.

The news was announced by the Department of Homeland Security, which revealed that Chavez was “expedited removal from the United States.”

The removal stems from the boxer’s arrest in Los Angeles in 2024. He was convicted of possession of an assault weapon, and manufacturing or importing a short-barreled rifle.

The Trump administration claims that he is a “Sinaloa Cartel affiliate” with an “active arrest warrant in Mexico for his involvement in organized crime and trafficking firearms, ammunitions and explosives,” the statement from ICE reads.

The statement continued, “Under President Trump, NO ONE is above the law—including world-famous athletes. Our message to any cartel affiliates in the U.S. is clear: We will find you and you will face consequences. The days of unchecked cartel violence are over.”

Ice says that the athlete also had a prior U.S. criminal conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol in 2012.
