Comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage at the Hollywood Bowl by an unidentified man.
Witnesses say the man rushed Chappelle while he was on the stage. The comedian and the man tussled before he fled behind the stage screen. He was then tackled by security.
Following the attack, the man was placed on a gurney and loaded into an ambulance to be taken to a hospital with “superficial injuries,” the LAPD said.
After the attack, Chris Rock, came on stage with Chappelle moments after the incident and joked: “Was that Will Smith?”
Rock’s joke was in reference to Smith slapping him in the face live onstage at the Oscars.
Chappelle was performing his act at the Hollywood Bowl amphitheater as part of the Netflix Is a Joke: The Festival which runs from April 28 to May 8. Leslie Jones, Jon Stewart and Chris Rock also performed at the event.
Chappelle appears to be fine.
