Actor and outspoken podcaster Michael Rapaport says he is planning a future run for mayor of New York City.
Just days after Zohran Mamdani was sworn in, Rapaport, 55, announced on his I Am Rapaport Stereo Podcast that he intends to challenge the new mayor in 2029.
“2025 was crazy, and I don’t see it getting any calmer or cooler,” Rapaport said near the end of the episode. “That’s why I’m running for mayor.”

Rapaport later doubled down on social media. “Born. Raised. NYC,” he wrote in a post outlining his vision. “Nothing’s free. No fake grins. I’ll own my mistakes, apologize when I screw up, and fight to make this city safe, affordable, and thriving.”
The actor, who has appeared in dozens of films and TV shows and is remembered by many for his role on Friends, has been an increasingly vocal critic of Mamdani. He has frequently blasted the mayor’s progressive policies and foreign policy positions, particularly surrounding Israel and Gaza.
On his podcast, Rapaport says he believes the state of the city will worsen over time. While the 2029 race is years away, Rapaport made clear that he sees his announcement as more than talk, telling listeners, “Mayor Rapaport is coming.”
