Shaniqua Tompkins, the former girlfriend of 50 Cent, is speaking out about the circumstances surrounding a legal agreement she says she signed under fear and pressure nearly two decades ago.
In court documents, Tompkins claims she felt unsafe when she was approached in her Las Vegas hotel room in 2007 by Chris Lighty, who was then managing the rapper, along with another man she believed was security. She alleges she was urged to sign away her life rights and warned of consequences if she refused.
“Fearing for my life and for my children’s lives, I signed the agreement under extreme duress,” Tompkins wrote in the sworn statement.
According to her account, Lighty told her that 50 Cent would “use his power, wealth and public platform to ruin me financially and personally” if she did not comply. Tompkins says she was not allowed to review the full contract and was only shown the signature page before signing.
At the time, she says she was financially dependent on the rapper while raising their children. “I was a stay-at-home mom with no independent income,” she stated.
The agreement has resurfaced in recent legal disputes after 50 Cent’s G-Unit Books sued Tompkins last year over social media posts that allegedly violated the contract. The company claimed the deal was intended to prevent her from profiting off their shared history.
