Attorneys for rapper Young Thug filed a motion last week to try and stop prosecutors from showing a video of a co-defendant’s arrest during the trial.

According to Channel 2, the March 17, 2022 arrest of Shannon Stillwell is on video and shows Stillwell being arrested on a murder charge during a religious ceremony involving the alleged sacrifice of goats.

Thugger’s attorney claims there is no benefit to showing evidence of the religious ceremony to jurors and that prejudice against the religious practice is commonplace.

“A reasonable person can also view this as character evidence as well,” the motion reads.

Last month, Thugger’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss the case based on the statute of limitations.

“In order to satisfy the crime of RICO conspiracy, the prosecution must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that at least one (1) overt act was committed in furtherance of the conspiracy within the Statute of Limitations. To satisfy the Statute of Limitations, the overt act must have occurred within five (5) years of the filing of the Bill of Indictment with the Clerk of Court.”

The motion was denied.
