Young Thug Defends Himself Amid Backlash Over Rich Homie Quan Tribute

A tribute post from Young Thug has sparked questions about his friendship with late rapper Rich Homie Quan.

Yesterday, Thugger uploaded a throwback video showing himself and Quan together in the studio performing their track “Tell Em.” In the caption, he wrote, “Never switched on u brada always road with u what happened.”

The post quickly went viral, but many fans slammed Thugger’s version of events.

Thug later addressed the criticism through a series of Instagram Stories. According to Thug, he distanced himself from YFN Lucci because Quan allegedly had problems with him at the time. He also claimed Quan eventually stepped away from their friendship because he felt “bigger alone.”

The rapper continued to defend himself online, saying no one could ever say he switched sides on the people around him and calling himself “the definition of loyalty.”

Young Thug and Rich Homie Quan rose to fame together during Atlanta’s rap explosion in the early 2010s, becoming close collaborators on hits like “Lifestyle,” “Tell Em” and the Rich Gang mixtape series with Birdman.

Fans began noticing tension between the two around 2015 as they stopped releasing music together and appeared to drift apart publicly before eventually admitting that their friendship had come to an end.

“We don’t speak on the dead. R.I.P. the boy Quan. I wish we could have made amends before he died. I wish we could have made amends before he died. But he passed away,” Thugger told Adin Ross last October.
