Young Dolph Murder Trial Jury Will Come From Outside of Memphis

Lyndon Abioye |

A judge has ruled that jurors in the trial of the two men accused of killing Young Dolph will come from outside of Memphis.

Murder suspect Justin Johnson’s original trial date was slated for June 3rd but was June 3 after his attorneys argued for a change of venue or that the court bring in in jurors from outside of the county.

Judge Jennifer J. Mitchell decided in favor of a change of venue motion filed by Justin Johnson’s lawyer, who argued that due to media attention and “public visceral outrage” over the murder, his client would not get a fair trial.

“This court is wary that jurors from Shelby County will not be able to lay aside their opinions or impressions and render a verdict based upon the evidence presented,” the judge said as she handed down her ruling.

Johnson has been charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder (for shooting at Young Dolph’s brother who was with the rapper when he was killed), being a felon in possession of a firearm, employment of a firearm during a dangerous felony and theft over $10,000.
