Attorneys defending YNW Melly have filed to have the double murder case against him dismissed.
Melly’s attorneys say prosecutors have been withholding incriminating information about their lead detective.
Miramar Police Detective Mark Moretti allegedly forcibly took a cell phone belonging to his mother, Jamie King, while he was questioning her in connection with the case last year. Melly’s attorneys says Moretti was outside his jurisdiction when he executed a search warrant for the phone. They added that the detective “willing to lie as to who served the search warrant” to cover his tracks and “willing to conspire” with a Broward Sheriff’s deputy who was not even present when the phone was confiscated.
YNW Melly is accused of two counts of first-degree murder in the killings Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas and Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams in Miramar in 2018, and then conspiring to make it look like a drive-by shooting. YNW Bortlen is also facing trial.
