YNW Melly is no longer facing the death penalty in his double homicide trial.
Melly was charged with two counts of first-degree murder in February 2019. Melly and YNW Bortlen are alleged to have gunned down crew members Anthony “YNW Sakchaser” Williams and Christopher “YNW Juvy” Thomas Jr.
Melly’s attorneys filed a motion that stated that “if the prosecutor intends to seek the death penalty, the prosecutor must give notice to the Defendant of that intent to seek the death penalty. This notice must be filed with the Court within 45 days of the arraignment.”
Melly’s arraignment happened on March 2, but his team said the state of Florida “has never filed a Notice of Intent to Seek the Death the Penalty listing the aggravating factors it intends to prove as it relates to this new or superseding indictment.”
So now the death penalty has to be dropped on a technicality. YNW says he is innocent and will be found not guilty.
