Florida rapper “YNW Melly,” was denied a mistrial in court today. Defense attorneys requested a mistrial last week, arguing the jury had been corrupted following testimony that could not be verified from the mother of YNW Melly’s ex-girlfriend.
YNW Melly and his childhood friend YNW Bortlen are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm in the 2018 shooting deaths of friends YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy.
Melly and Bortlen were riding in a Jeep after a recording session in Fort Lauderdale when Melly allegedly fatally shot Sakchaser and Juvy. Henry is charged as an accomplice in the case but will be tried separately.
Melly denied the charges against him. Bortlen is testifying against him in court.
YNW Melly rose to prominence after he released his breakout song “Murder on My Mind” on SoundCloud and on YouTube in 2017 while signed with 300 Entertainment. The track made it onto the Billboard Hot 100.
