During his trial, text messages from rapper YNW Melly were read out in court…and in one text, he appears to take responsibility for the double murders.
In court, Detective Mark Moretti revealed on private texts and social media correspondences between Melly and others. When asked how he was doing after the shooting in one of these messages, he allegedly told Peezy Gambino, “Shhh. I did that.”
Melly’s defense attorneys argued for a mistrial on the grounds that Moretti’s evidence is inconclusive and forces the jury to speculate.
YNW Melly and his childhood friend YNW Bortlen are each charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm in the 2018 shooting deaths of friends YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy.
Melly and Bortlen were riding in a Jeep after a recording session in Fort Lauderdale when Melly allegedly fatally shot Sakchaser and Juvy. Henry is charged as an accomplice in the case but will be tried separately.
Melly denied the charges against him. Bortlen is testifying against him in court.
