Yella Beezy says 264 potential witnesses are way too many to prepare for as he heads toward trial in Dallas.
The “That’s On Me” rapper, born Markies Conway, is asking Judge Chika Anyiam to order prosecutors to pare down their witness list in his murder-for-hire case.
His attorney, Toby Shook, filed a four-page motion Monday after prosecutors expanded their list from 194 names to 264. The defense argues the filing gives them little clarity about who the state genuinely expects to call at trial.
The list includes people connected to slain rapper Mo3, as well as figures from Beezy’s personal and professional circles. Among them are Mo3’s former manager Brandon Rainwater, Beezy’s girlfriend DeAndrea Harris, Trapboy Freddy, Jose Bodega and alleged co-conspirators Jerry Johnson, Devin Brown and Kewon White.
Shook contends that preparing for testimony from all 264 people could consume valuable defense resources, particularly if many never enter the courtroom. He is asking for a narrowed, “good-faith” list by August 14 and wants prosecutors to identify any rebuttal witnesses separately.
The motion also seeks to keep previously undisclosed witnesses off the stand unless prosecutors can demonstrate good cause and provide reasonable notice.
Yella Beezy has not been convicted in the case.
