Wyclef Jean has weighed in on Donald Trump’s shocking claims that Haitian immigrants have been eating the domestic pets of residents in Springfield, Ohio.
During his debate with Kamala Harris on Tuesday night, Trump claimed that immigrants from Haiti were out of control and eating Springfield’s cats and dogs.
TMZ caught up with Wyclef, who asked him about Trump’s remarks.
The rapper was quick to reiterate that America is nation of immigrants and that it is one of the country’s “greatest assets.”
“On behalf of Haitian Americans, I ask that we stop these racist messages and accusations. Put our hands out in peace and say thanks for being my neighbor,” he went on, adding, “We need to respect one another and vote based on policies and facts, not crazy talk. And we need to shake hands with one another and be thankful we are part of an America for all.”
Fact checkers confirmed that there is a photo of a man circling the internet carrying a goose down the street, purported to be a Haitian immigrant from Springfield. The picture was taken in Columbus, Ohio.
The last individual documented to have eaten a cat was a woman from Canton, Ohio. She was arrested for the crime in 2011.
