The woman at the center of R. Kelly’s 2008 trial testified in court on Thursday that the disgraced singer sexually abused her “hundreds” of times before she turned 18.
She also admitted that it was her and Kelly in a videotape that was at the center of his 2008 child pornography trial and says she was 14 at the time.
“Jane” told jurors why she lied in 2008 and denied Kelly was in the video.
“I was afraid something bad would happen to Robert. I was protecting him.”
She was asked to explain why Kelly gave money to her in the video.
“If anyone saw the tape … he wanted it to appear as if I was a prostitute,” Jane said. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison on federal charges alleging he used his fame to sexually abuse fans. If convicted of the Chicago charges, he can expect to never see the light of day again.
