Wiz Khalifa is facing a legal setback overseas after a Romanian court rejected his appeal to overturn a nine-month jail sentence tied to a drug possession conviction.
The Constanta Court of Appeal ruled Thursday that the appeal was inadmissible and denied a separate request to suspend the sentence. Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was convicted in December for possession of cannabis for personal use following an incident at the Beach, Please! Festival in July 2024.
Prosecutors alleged that the 18-gram quantity was discovered after the rapper consumed cannabis on stage during his performance. He was found guilty of possession of dangerous drugs without the right for personal consumption. A lower court had previously issued a fine of 3,600 lei, roughly $830, before prosecutors sought a stricter penalty.

After the festival, Khalifa addressed the moment on social media.
“I didn’t mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage,” he wrote. “They were very respectful and let me go.” He added that he hoped to return, “but without a joint next time.”
It remains unclear whether Romanian authorities will pursue extradition.
