Tiffany Brockworth |

A video is going viral, Media Take Out has learned, which shows a substitute teacher confiscating a student’s cell phone at Rocky Mount High, North Carolina. What happened afterward is shocking.

In the video – which was reviewed by Media Take Out – the student strikes the teacher, and in response, the substitute fights back, knocking the teenage girl to the ground and pounds her out.

After landing a few blows, the teacher can be heard calling for help – saying, “someone get a teacher” while the rest of the class looks on in amazement.

Police and Nash County Public Schools (NCPS) learned there was an altercation between a juvenile student and a substitute teacher over the confiscation of a cell phone. The fight occurred between the end of first period and the start of Connections Intervention period, according to NCPS.

The teacher, identified by police as Xaviera Steele, has been with the school system for approximately a year.

NCPS policy states that “if an employee is attacked by a student, the employee has the right to reasonably restrain the student and defend themselves to the point that they are free of the threat or attack.”

Police have not yet said whether Xaviera is facing criminal charges. No injuries were reported, Media Take Out confirmed, and police and the school system are investigating.
