Tyrese Gibson wants his fans to know that he was detained, not arrested, earlier this week after being put in handcuffs for failing to pay his amended child support.

“I am in good spirits and confident in my legal team’s pursuit of justice,” Tyrese said in a statement to Us Weekly. “I was detained, not arrested, for less than two hours and released immediately after the great work of my attorney, Tanya Mitchell Graham’s Notice of Intent to Appeal was filed into the Clerk’s Office minutes after the Judge’s ruling.”

Judge Kevin Farmer ordered that the star be held in contempt of court and ordered that he pay $73,000 to avoid jail time. A judge previously increased his payments from $2,200 per month to $10,690 per month. He is seeking help from the media.

In Fulton County Court, Tyrese reportedly refused to make the payments to his ex and was escorted out of the courtroom and into a cell in handcuffs.

Following his detainment, he accused the judge of “hating his guts” and alleged the judge was “besties” with the prosecution attorney.
