Tucker Carlson says he regrets his past support for President Donald Trump.
On the latest episode of The Tucker Carlson Show, the former Fox News host said he regrets backing Trump and believes he shares responsibility for helping build support around the president.
“I do think it’s like a moment to wrestle with our own consciences,” Carlson said during the conversation with his brother, Buckley Carlson. “You know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time. I will be, and I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional.”
Carlson said his role went beyond simply voting for Trump. He recalled actively campaigning for him and said that leaves him feeling accountable now.
“We’re implicated in this for sure,” Carlson said. “It’s not enough to say, ‘Well, I changed my mind,’ or like, ‘Oh, this is bad. I’m out.’”
Carlson spent years as one of Trump’s most vocal media allies.
In recent weeks, however, Carlson has publicly slammed the president over his handling of the war in Iran. Earlier this month, he called one of Trump’s social media posts about the conflict “vile.” Trump later responded by attacking Carlson in a Truth Social post.
“They’re stupid people, they know it, their families know it, and everyone else knows it, too!” Trump wrote.
Carlson left Fox News in 2023 after nearly 14 years at the network.
