Trina Braxton has lost her husband, Von Scales, nearly seven years after the couple began building a life together.
Scales died at age 58, according to a family statement released Thursday, Oct. 1. No cause of death was announced.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Von Scales, beloved husband of Trina Braxton,” the statement said. “The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers, but is asking for privacy at this time as they navigate this unfortunate event.”
Braxton, 51, and Scales married in December 2019 in St. Louis, with their wedding later featured on Braxton Family Values.
At the time, Braxton said the day was about bringing their worlds together.
The couple met through a mutual friend, and Scales later admitted he didn’t initially realize who Braxton was. After spotting photos of Toni Braxton in Trina’s home, he recalled thinking, “Damn, what is this, some kind of superfan or something like that?”
Braxton often spoke about the stability she found with Scales.
“There are things that we can look forward to together, and I’ve never had that before in my life,” she said in 2023. Scales was also by Braxton’s side after the death of her ex-husband Gabe Solis.
