Tory Lanez’s appeal may take longer as expected after prosecutors filed for a deadline extension.
Reporter Meghann Cuniff shared the update along with paperwork to her X account.
“Tory Lanez is appealing his convictions and 10-year sentence for shooting Megan Thee Stallion, and his brief was filed 3 months ago. But don’t expect anything to happen soon. Prosecutors today requested another deadline extension for their reply, and it’s certain to be granted,” she wrote.
Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, was sentenced in August to 10 years in prison after being convicted of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
He has always denied shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
In a previous statement, Lanez that “regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence and I always will.”
Lanez continued, “In no way, shape, or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of. I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do.”
