Tory Lanez is officially set to face the California Court of Appeal on August 18, 2025, as he continues his legal battle to overturn his felony conviction.

According to court records, oral arguments will begin at 9 a.m. in Los Angeles, where Lanez’s legal team will present their case in The People v. Peterson, filed under the 2nd District Court of Appeal.

The Canadian artist, born Daystar Peterson, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence after being found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2020. Lanez has maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings.

Lanez’s appeal argues procedural errors and due process violations during the trial, seeking to overturn his conviction or reduce his sentence. The outcome of this appeal could drastically change the course of Lanez’s career and legal future.

Last week, New Jersey Assemblyman Jamel Holley and White House appointee Jack Brewer officially sent a petition to California Governor Gavin Newsom requesting a pardon for the R&B crooner.

“I humbly implore you to exercise your authority…to grant clemency, correcting a grave injustice and safeguarding a life,” Holley wrote, noting that “Mr. Peterson’s conviction rests on unstable foundations.”
