Tory Lanez Sentencing Further Delayed As He Seeks New Trial

Lyndon Abioye |

Rapper Tory Lanez’s attorneys have filed a motion for a new trial months after he was found guilty of charges connected to the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

The prosecution said the motion lacked substance and the guilty verdict should stand. Lanez, who was convicted on Dec. 23, 2022, for shooting Meg, was initially set to be sentenced in January but the sentencing has been delayed several times after he hired a brand new legal team.

Lanez chose not to take the witness stand during the trial. He pleaded not guilty to one felony count each of assault with a semi-automatic firearm (personal use of a firearm) and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.

During the trial, a phonecall to Megan’s former best friend, Kelsey Harris was played. During the call, Lanez acknowledges shooting Megan, says he is “deeply sorry,” and was “just so f-cking drunk.” The recording was a key piece of evidence presented by prosecutors to the jury.
