Tory Lanez Fights To Remove Judge Preparing To Sentence Him

Lyndon Abioye |

An attorney representing Tory Lanez filed a request last week to delay the rapper’s sentencing. Matthew Barhoma is asking for a delay of a few weeks after filing a petition to disqualify Judge David Herriford.

Lanez’s attorneys accused the judge of failing to be impartial in the Tory Lanez shooting case.

However, the judge shot down their allegations.

“I am not prejudiced or biased against or in favor of any party to this proceeding or their counsel,” the judge wrote. “All rulings made by me in this action have been based upon facts and arguments officially presented to me and upon my understanding of the law … All statements made by me and all actions taken by me in this proceeding have been done in furtherance of what I believe were my judicial duties.”

Lanez was convicted of shooting Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion during the summer of 2020. He was found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, discharging a firearm with gross negligence and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and faces up to 22 years in prison.
