Reality stars Todd and Julie Chrisley were sentenced to prison yesterday for bank fraud and tax evasion.
Todd received the longest sentence, receiving 12 years in prison plus 16 months on probation. Julie, his wife, was sentenced to seven years and 16 months of probation.
The couple was accused of inflating their net worth in order to obtain more than $30 million in fraudulent loans and of dodging taxes.
“The seriousness of the Chrisleys’ crimes cannot be understated. After they defrauded community banks out of tens of millions of dollars, they hid millions of dollars from the IRS, all while going on television to boast about how much they spend on designer clothes,” prosecutors wrote in their sentencing request. “And when they learned that they were under investigation for those crimes, they involved their own family members and friends to obstruct justice.”
Prosecutors wanted Todd to go to prison for at least 22 years and Julie for 13.
