U.S. golfer Tiger Woods says he lost sleep over he assassination attempt on Donald Trump and says the incident was the reason for his lackluster performance at the Royal Troon the next day.

“I didn’t accomplish a lot because I wasn’t in the right frame of mind,” he told BBC Sport.

“It was a long night [because of the assassination attempt] and that’s all we watched the entire time on the way over here. I didn’t sleep at all on the flight, and then we just got on the golf course.”

Woods and Trump are good friends and regularly play golf together. While in office, Trump awarded Woods with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, recognized as the highest civilian award in the U.S.

The shooter was identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks. He shot and killed one person and injured two other civilians and Trump. Crooks was fatally shot shortly after the assassination attempt.
