T.I. and Tameka “Tiny” Harris have won a major legal victory against MGA Entertainment after suing the company for infringing on the intellectual property rights of their music group, the OMG Girlz, through its L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls.
The couple have reportedly walked away with $71 million.
“We did this for the city. We did this for the culture,” Tiny said via Instagram after the ruling. “It was a fight. It was a hell of a fight. We couldn’t be more happy.”
Tiny then thanked the jurors for listening to their story and finding in their favor.
The couple argued that MGA Entertainment infringed upon the likeness and trade dress of their girl group, OMG Girlz, which was formed in 2009, and misappropriated the Atlanta girl group’s name for its O.M.G. line of toys. MGA Entertainment launched the L.O.L. Surprise! doll line on December 7, 2016
The jury ruled that seven of the L.O.L. Surprise O.M.G. dolls infringed the likeness and trade dress of the OMG Girlz.
T.I. and Tiny were awarded $17.9 million in real damages and $53.6 million in punitive damages.
