Verzuz co-founders Swizz Beatz and Timbalad hopped on social media to celebrate a distribution partnership with Elon Musk’s X.
They shared the announcement with a pic of the three of them toasting during Cannes Lions conference in France.
“Not only are we excited to have Verzuz on X, we’re excited to help X build the biggest entertainment company in the world,” Swizz said in statement via Variety beforethanking several X executives including owner Elon Musk for believing in their vision. “We can’t wait to get back to work.”
But fans were upset that the trio chose Juneteenth to make the announcement.
“On Juneteenth you’re announcing a collab with a man who is a direct lineage of disgusting apartheid…? What is happening here,” one follower wrote, adding, “this is nothing to celebrate on the day we recognise our ancestors and their FREEDOM from the very evils Elon’s family was a part.”
Another follower added, “Apartheid Clyde on Juneteenth? Do better.”
