Swizz Beatz and Timbaland filed a lawsuit against Triller for more than $28 million, alleging that the streaming platform owes them money after Triller acquired Verzuz.

They say the company began missing payments in January 2022.

“To date, Defendants have failed and refused to make any payment to [Swizz Beatz and Timbaland] of the past due sums due and owing,” the suit reads.

Timbaland and Swizz Beatz then entered into a settlement and payment agreement with Triller in February. Triller agreed to pay them $9 million each no later than March 17, then Triller would pay them $500,000 each on the first of the month for 10 months. The payments were to happen sooner if they received $100 million in funding or closed on its proposed merger with SeaChange International.

Timbaland and Swizz Beatz are seeking compensatory damages of $28,095,000 plus attorneys’ fees and costs. They are also seeking pre-judgment interest.

Triller has not released a statement in response to the lawsuit.
