Steven Tyler’s legal battle is getting a new judge just days before trial.
Judge Patricia A. Young has stepped away from the Los Angeles case brought by Julia Misley, who has accused the Aerosmith singer of sexual misconduct dating back to when she was a teenager in the 1970s.
“The Court hereby recuses itself on this case,” court documents state.
Young disclosed the issue to attorneys ahead of a September 15 hearing and gave the parties a chance to agree to let her remain. Because not everyone agreed, the court will now reassign the case.
The timing is notable. Tyler’s jury trial is currently set to begin September 28ember and is expected to last roughly seven to 10 days.
Attorneys will return to court September 18 before Supervising Judge Lawrence Riff to address the reassignment and trial readiness.
Misley filed the lawsuit in December 2022, accusing Tyler of sexual assault, sexual battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Tyler has denied wrongdoing.
The upcoming hearing will determine what happens next with the scheduled trial date.
Earlier this year, a judge dismissed most of Misley’s claims. One intentional infliction of emotional distress claim remains and centers on her allegation that she and Tyler had sex at a hotel and in a public hot tub in California when she was 16.
Tyler’s attorney David Long-Daniels previously celebrated the earlier ruling, calling it “a massive win for Steven Tyler.”
