Layla Taylor is coming out as bisexual and says she is currently dating a woman.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star, 25, shared the personal news during an appearance on On Purpose With Jay Shetty, saying she spent years figuring out how to talk about her sexuality publicly.
“I’m gay, and I’m bi and date women and men,” Layla said.
Layla said she often felt different long before she had the language for her sexuality.
“Growing up, I didn’t fit in for a lot of reasons in my childhood,” she said. “I grew up in a very predominantly white area, and being a little Black girl, I already stood out so much to my peers.”
She recalled watching Pretty Little Liars and seeing Shay Mitchell kiss a woman.
“I was like, ‘Wait, why is that hot?’” she said.
Layla, who shares two children with ex-husband Clayton Wessell, said she used to question whether her attraction to women was “just a phase.”
“I would just kind of underplay it for a long period of my life,” she said.
These days, Layla is choosing openness. “I’m over not showing every part of Layla to the world,” she said. “I’m very proud now to be out.”
She said her current partner has been “very understanding.”
