Tay Keith, the Memphis producer who helped give modern rap some of its biggest anthems, has died at 29 after police found him in his Nashville apartment.
The Metro Nashville Police Department said Brytavious Chambers, known to fans and collaborators as Tay Keith, was found Thursday afternoon during a welfare check at his Martin Street apartment. His cause of death has not been announced.
“No foul play is suspected in the death of Brytavious Chambers, 29, also known as Grammy-nominated record producer Tay Keith,” police said. “His death is unclassified pending autopsy results.”
Raised in Memphis, Keith began making music as a teenager and formed an early creative bond with BlocBoy JB, whom he met at 14.
Their work together helped open the door, first with “Rover,” then with “Look Alive,” the 2018 hit featuring Drake. That same year, Keith’s sound traveled far and wide on Travis Scott’s “Sicko Mode,” which earned him a Grammy nomination.
He went on to work with Drake on “Nonstop,” Drake and 21 Savage on “Rich Flex,” Eminem on “Not Alike,” Sexyy Red on “SkeeYee,” and Beyoncé on “Before I Let Go.”
BMI later named Keith producer of the year at its R&B/Hip-Hop Awards three times, including in 2024.
According to TMZ, law enforcement does not suspect any foul play.
