Shannon Sharpe is currently the top trending story on Twitter today, after he leaked a graphic video of where he was allegedly having relations with a woman on social media. And it came at the perfect time, as his podcast has been losing viewers.
Media Take Out learned that Shannon Sharpe’s most popular Youtube channel – Club Shay Shay – has been precipitously losing viewers, since it exploded onto the scene with the Katt Williams interview.
The Katt Williams interview, which garnered 75 million views, launched Shannon’s podcast as one of the top podcasts in the world. But since then, Shannons numbers have dropped significantly.
Media Take Out did an analysis – and Shannon’s views have dropped more than 60% since the Katt Williams interview.
But now he’s viral again … and some folks are wondering if this latest incident was staged.
The clips, which came from Shannon’s IG Live account, showed up yesterday when his account suddenly went live – streaming audio of an alleged encounter between Shannon and a woman named “Michelle.”
In the video, Shannon can be heard grunting and groaning – while telling the young lady to “take this d**k” in his country elder statesman accent.
Shannon has since explained the incident, claiming that it was an “accident.” According to Shannon, he never meant for the video to be released publicly.
But many social media experts, as well as many of his fans, think that uncle Shannon is capping.
There are a few questionable things about Shannon’s story First off, he claims that Instagram Live was “accidentally” launched 25 minutes into his encounter.
According to Instagram, launching a Live takes 6 separate steps to launch. In addition to swipes, you have to tap a series of buttons, all at different parts of the screen.
If the buttons are not tapped in the proper sequence, within a relatively short time period, Instagram will time out, and you would have to launch again. The META company intentionally made launching Live complicated to reduce the chance of an Unwanted launch of the feature.
Here’s the steps that are needed to launch IG Live, according to Instagram:
- Swipe right anywhere in Feed, then scroll to Live at the bottom.
- Next, tap Title on the left and enter a title or leave it blank, then tap Add title.
- Next, tap at the bottom. The number of viewers appears at the top of the screen and comments appear at the bottom.
- Next, tap close in the top right,
- Then tap End Now to confirm.
- From there, you can tap Share to share it to your profile.
But it could happen … right? Technically yes. But Shannon’s explanation of HOW it happened, makes it seem even more unlikely.
According to Shannon, this “accidental” launch didn’t occur immediately before he began his romantic encounter. Shannon told his co-host Chad Ochocinco that the video launched 25 minutes into his encounter.
Shannon claims that he was in the midst of being intimate with the young woman, and when he moved his phone – it launched. Meaning that Shannon was not using his phone when it launched – as he was preoccupied with his female friend.
The accidental 6 step process occurred while he was moving his phone during his encounter, Shannon claims.
Does that sound believable? Listen:
So let’s play devil’s advocate. Why else would Shannon “leak” this video – other than for views?
Well first off, Shannon faced a series of rumors – surrounding his friendship with openly gay stylist Hollywood Mugler. Hollywood became famous for claiming to have had a alleged gay affair with former NFL star Kerry Rhodes.
Shannon and Hollywood were seen together all over Los Angeles. And the two men frequently attended NBA games together – sitting front row.
It’s possible that Shannon leaked the video to stop the rumors about his friendship with Hollywood.
