Sha’Carri Richardson avoided jail time after reaching a plea deal in her Florida “super speeder” case.
The Olympic gold medalist changed her original not guilty plea following her January arrest in Orange County, where authorities said she was driving 104 mph on State Road 429 near Stoneybrook Parkway.
As part of the agreement, Richardson must pay a $500 fine, complete 100 hours of community service and take an eight-hour driving course.
Deputies alleged that Richardson was “dangerously tailgating” other vehicles and moving across lanes to pass drivers before she was stopped. Body camera footage from the traffic stop was later released.
The track star’s legal resolution comes as she continues to compete at the highest level of her sport. Richardson became a global name after winning the women’s 100-meter title at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. She later helped Team USA capture gold in the women’s 4×100-meter relay at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Richardson recently added another victory to her résumé, winning the 100-meter race at the U.S. track and field championships in July.
The athlete has not publicly addressed the terms of the plea deal.
While Richardson will not spend time behind bars, the agreement leaves her with several obligations away from the track. She will now balance her training and competition schedule with the required community service and driving class.
