Ryan Garcia was recently suspended from boxing after he received a one year suspension after he tested positive for a banned substance.
“I’m retiring for a year. So they don’t get the [satisfaction] for suspending me cause it’s bull,” Garcia told TMZ Sports. “I never took steroids in my life.”
Last month, it was revealed that Garcia’s A-sample, collected the day before and the day of his upset win over Devin Haney, returned positive for ostarine on May 1. His B-sample also tested positive.
Ostarine is a selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM) that attaches to proteins in the body and effectively signals for muscles to grow. It is used to aid performance by helping athletes build muscle mass , enhance their fat loss rate, and increase stamina and recovery ability.
Garcia was forced to forfeit his disclosed fight purse of $1.2 million from his match against Devin Haney in April and was fined $10,000. His win over Haney was overturned to a no-contest.
“It does [hurt]. [Devin’s] a ‘b,’ and his daddy’s a ‘b.’ The only reason I’m not cussing is cause my daughter’s here,” he told the outlet.
