Russell Brand’s rape trial heard emotional testimony from a woman who claims the comedian sexually assaulted her at his London home, then blamed her for the mess.
The woman, identified in court as Complainant 5, alleged that Brand told her, “You need to clean up the mess that you’ve made,” after the alleged 2009 assault.
In a police interview played for jurors, she recalled visiting Brand’s Hampstead home after meeting him at one of his comedy shows She testified that she consented to vaginal sex but never agreed to anal sex, which she alleges Brand initiated without her permission.
The woman said she later suffered an anal tear and struggled to process the experience.
“I went there knowing I would have sex with him,” she explained, describing why she initially found it difficult to accept what had happened.
Years later, she said, the emotional impact remained.
“I carried the feeling of guilt and shame,” she testified during questioning by Brand’s attorney.
The woman also recalled confronting Brand through text messages months afterward, allegedly telling him, “I think you pushed me far enough, you treated me like an animal,” and then she apologized to him.
Brand, who faces three rape charges, three sexual assault charges and one indecent assault charge involving six women, denies all allegations.
He has pleaded not guilty, maintaining that any sexual activity was consensual.
His trial at Southwark Crown Court is ongoing.
