Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby has opened up about her son Robert Cosby Jr., who was arrested in September after police responded to a domestic violence call tied to an attempt to enter his father-in-law’s home.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Mary said the arrest became a major wake-up call for Robert, who previously revealed his battle with addiction on season five.
“It was for his good,” Mary said. “I think he needed that. He has never encountered anything like that. I was devastated and worried and scared, but some things happen for a reason. I feel like he understands now that it is the wrong journey.”
Robert told the outlet he is taking his recovery “day by day.” He added, “I am not where I want to be, but I am not where I used to be. I will get there.”
Mary also cleared the air on what happened that night.
Robert’s wife, Alexiana, had been staying in the Cosby home, and then the two slipped away to meet up. “They snuck out to be together and got caught,” Mary said. “The parents made sure he was arrested for trespassing.” She now calls the ordeal “a blessing in disguise.”
Mary is currently the focus of a soon-to-be-released documentary accusing her of running a cult. She has previously denied the allegations.
