Real Housewives of Orange County star Shannon Beador has broken her silence weeks after it was revealed that she received a recent traffic citation while being on probation for a DUI.
Shannon found herself on the wrong side of the law in May, when she was pulled over and cited for “operating a handheld wireless telephone or electronic wireless communication device” while driving.
The Real Housewives alum opened up about the incident during a recent episode of Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, insisting she didn’t “do anything wrong.”
“Everything’s fine!” she assured. “I was coming from an interview confessional, and I got a new puppy, and when I was at a red light, my phone buzzed.”
Shannon explained that she “wasn’t driving” at the time, so she glanced down and saw it was “one of those political texts” before putting her phone away. Moments later, she said, a police officer stopped her, claiming she had violated California’s “no-touch” phone law. In California, it is illegal for drivers to have physical contact with their phones.
According to Shannon, the kicker was that the law “had yet to go into effect” when she was pulled over.
