Mia Thornton and husband Gordon Thornton are separating after 11 years of marriage. And Media Take Out confirmed that it was Mia’s idea to end her marriage to the much older Gordon.
“Like all marriages, ours has had its ups and downs,” The Real Housewives of Potomac star, 38 told People magazine. “At this time, Gordon and I are separated, but my family is my number one priority, and I am committed to doing whatever it takes to make sure we are okay.”
“We ask that you respect our privacy and give us the time and space to figure things out,” she adds.
Mia and Gordon, 70, were married in March 2012 and share son Jeremiah Carter, 8, and daughter Juliana, 6. They each have one child from their previous relationships.
The couple’s marital woes are expected to play out season 8 of RHOP, which premieres in a little over a month on Bravo. Media Take Out got a glimpse of the new season’s trailer that hinted at trouble between them, with Mia telling the ladies that she “obtained a divorce lawyer” during a difficult point in their relationship.
She also tells costar Ashley Darby that she “might” have married Gordon for his money.
Sp what is the cause of the divorce? Well a little birdie told Media Take Out that Gordon’s finances aren’t quite what they were a few years ago, when the couple got married. And now Mia’s looking for a way out of her marriage to her geriatric husband.
