Ray J’s manager is addressing concerns after the singer took the stage while visibly unwell.

Following his Valentine’s Day performance in Shreveport, Louisiana, Ray J drew attention for appearing with blood visible beneath his eyes and a medical monitor attached to his chest. The concert came days after Ray J said doctors warned him about serious health issues.

His manager, Melinda Santiago, told PEOPLE that the show went on despite the alarming visuals. “We all know that Ray J has been under the weather,” she said. “But all my artists that work with me gotta do their job whether they are bleeding or not.”

Videos from the night show Ray J wearing dark sunglasses as he sang and handed roses to fans. At one point, he removed his shirt, revealing the monitor before stepping into the crowd. In another moment, he adjusted his glasses, exposing blood beneath both eyes.

Ray J later echoed his manager’s stance with a post showing the two together near a private plane. “Whatever Melinda says goes,” he wrote, adding a blood drop emoji.

Before the concert, Ray J acknowledged the risks himself. “I’m putting my life on the line for this show,” he said in a message shared ahead of the performance.

Despite the concern from fans, neither Ray J nor his team have indicated plans to slow down.
