For the past 5 years, rapper 21 Savage has been working to get his green card. The rapper, whose mom is a Jamaican immigrant from the UK, brought Savage to Atlanta illegally when he was a child.
As Media Take Out reported, 21 Savage married his babys mother …. and as a result got fast tracked into getting his green card.
But before giving the rapper his paperwork, immigration officials had to be sure that 21’s marriage was real, and not done exclusively for papers.
Well last week 21 Savage was granted his green card officially.
Fans of the rapper are now counting down how long it will take, before 21 Savage goes public with his longtime side chick Latto. The two have been rumored to be a couple for over a year now. Of course 21 had to keep the relationship a secret, given that he had to be married for immigration purposes.
Savage’s lawyer, Charles Kuck, told The Associated Press in a statement Friday that his client has officially become a permanent U.S. resident and may now go overseas. He cleared a major traveling hurdle after being taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Georgia in 2019.
Kuck said the Grammy-nominated artist followed “all applicable immigration laws since his initial detention by ICE.”
“His immigration court proceedings have now been terminated and he is a lawful permanent resident of the United States with the freedom to travel internationally,” Kuck said.
Savage, 30, whose given name is She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, spent 10 days in a detention center in southern Georgia before his release. He was arrested in a targeted operation over his visa, which expired in 2006.
He said he had no idea what a visa was when his mother brought him to the U.S. at 7 years old.
